Morrison Court System & Jurisdictions

In Minnesota, there are no separate magistrate or municipal courts at the county level — all first-instance jurisdiction is concentrated in the District Court. Morrison County District Court is part of the Seventh Judicial District and handles all categories of cases:

  • Criminal Cases — from minor offenses (misdemeanors) and traffic violations to serious crimes (felonies).
  • Civil Cases — lawsuits for any amount, including small claims (conciliation court) up to $15,000.
  • Family Law — divorce, alimony, paternity establishment, protective orders.
  • Probate Proceedings — wills, guardianship, management of deceased estates.
  • Juvenile Cases — juvenile offenses, child protection cases.

The court is located in the Morrison County Courthouse building:

Morrison County Courthouse
213 First Avenue SELittle Falls, MN 56345Phone: (320) 632-0300

Since one court handles all types of cases, the search for records starts in the same place — whether you're interested in a speeding ticket or a complex civil case.

Morrison Court Calendar & Upcoming Hearings

To find out which hearings are scheduled for today, tomorrow, or this week, refer to the court calendar on the Morrison County District Court page. Calendars display scheduled sessions in courtrooms but do not cover all cases heard throughout the day. Confidential cases and some proceedings are not published.

Steps to check the schedule:

  1. Go to the Morrison County District Court page on the Minnesota Judicial Branch website.
  2. Find the "Court Calendar" section — there is usually a link to the daily or weekly schedule.
  3. If you need information about a specific case, use the MCRO search, selecting Morrison County from the list of counties.

Information about individuals currently in custody at the county jail, including dates of upcoming court hearings, can be viewed on the In Custody page of the county sheriff's office. Photos, charges, bail amounts, and intake dates are displayed there.

How to Get a Copy of a Morrison Court Document

There are two types of copies: regular (uncertified) and certified. A regular copy is suitable for personal review. A certified copy is needed when the document is submitted to another institution — for example, a certified copy of a divorce decree for document changes.

Online. Through MCRO, many public records can be viewed and available documents downloaded. Note: the system is not an official source, and the judicial branch does not certify MCRO search results.

In Person. Contact the court clerk's office in the Morrison County Courthouse building at the address provided above. Public terminals in the courthouse provide the most complete access to electronic district court records.

By Mail. Send a written request specifying:

  • The full name of the party in the case
  • The case number (if known)
  • The type of document needed
  • A check or money order for the appropriate amount

Mailing address for requests:

Court Administrator's Office

Some records are restricted in access — juvenile cases, expunged criminal cases, and certain family cases are usually not issued to third parties.
